Meanwhile Back at the Manger

About

Thomas is frustrated with his job in the stable, pushing around hay and cleaning up after the animals. Leaving his stable job behind, he starts a new job, night fishing with his friend. But meanwhile, back at the stable, something miraculous is happening that will change everything for the better.

This unique perspective of the Christmas story will open up young readers to see that even the mundane tasks we do matter to God.

Praise for this book

I love the back-and-forth of this unique take on the birth of Christ. Kids will love seeing poor, bedraggled Thomas being the last one to learn the wonderful secret of his stable that blessed night. This is going to be a favorite Christmas book, I’m sure.

An enjoyable retelling of the nativity story by Brenda Covert. Children will relate to the main character, Thomas, as he shares the events that happen to him during the night baby Jesus is born in the stable he cares for.

Meanwhile, Back at the Manger is a fun read-aloud with its unique retelling of a beloved story. Children will enjoy the anticipation as the pages are turned to reveal what is occurring ‘back at the manger’ while a young stable boy is away fishing.

Brenda Covert’s debut picture book Meanwhile, Back at the Manger, told in parallel story style and from the point of view of a young stable boy, is a fresh and fun take on the Christmas story that will touch hearts of all ages. Perfect for ages four through eight, it is a wonderful introduction to the real gift of the manger—Jesus!

This delightful, humorous story brings to life the wonder of the nativity through new eyes. While kids learn about the manger scene, they’ll also learn that sometimes when the place God puts us seems boring, the Lord has bigger plans than we could ever imagine. A wonderful and unique Christmas tale.

A creative take on the Christmas story that intersects the daily lives of ordinary people like you and me.
